Sensornet
This project was conceived as a result of SCDFxIBM’s Lifesaver’s Innovation Challenge Call For Code 2021
Problem Statement
As we emerge stronger from COVID-19, how might we leverage technology to evolve emergency response and public safety strategies to enhance the capability and resilience of SCDF to respond better in a pandemic situation?
How Does it work
Sensornet is a modular and scalable network and it taps on existing sensors. Sensors are basically any source that can provide data and examples inlcude: fire alarm systems, CCTVs, etc
Artificial Intelligence helps in Counting the number of casualties and locating them, as well as identifying undetected fires. Applications of Artificial Intelligence are limitless.
Internet-connected sensors connected to Sensornet make use of the 5G networks for increased redundancy and to provide low-latency data transfers
Sensornet also leverages on cloud computing to scale accordingly to the number of sensors streaming data to it
Drones will also be deployed to give frontliners as well as commanders a bird's eye view of the incident site through a hub and node approach
Benefits
Better Assessment Of The Incident
Tasks such as headcount of casualties cen be automated and not done manually
Timely deployment of resources such as ambulances or fire engines
Adopts a whole-of-government approach by working with other home-team agencies
